I imagine that you were thinking I will ask her to marry me and then “I’m done” (grooms responsibility for wedding) LOL! Well maybe it was not that simple but what do you need to think about when she is going on an on about this linen and that flower arrangement.  Oh man what did I get myself into?!  Not to worry there are a lot of great resources out there that have informative articles for any situation.  One of my current favorites is www.theplunge.com for the guys to check out and read.   So what is it that us dudes need to do.

#1 Listen and remember

This may take more work than just listening but if you really pay attention to her you are going to be in happy place!  It may be as simple as writing down some basic notes about what she said about the this and that.  Do yourself a favor and write it down so you can remember after you forget! Got it?

#2 Divide the duties

Divide the responsibilities BEFORE your wedding planning begins to take on a life of its own. For instance, you will be responsible for hiring the band (or DJ). Your bride will arrange the flowers, pick out some cool linen and hire the photographer. Together you will select the venue, choose your wedding rings and procure the transportation.  Do your best here to be involved and you will be earning some future love making points! (wink wink).

# 3 Discuss the budget

Do yourself a favor, Guys… Discuss the budget before your bride starts making the plans. You’ll just end up ruining it for your bride if you become involved only when there’s money on the table.  This is especially true if you if you wait till she has decided on $8500.00 for ceremony flowers etc.  So get in the game from the beginning on budget!

#4 Prepare to overspend!

What!! No.  Sorry to say but this is the reality for most couples even on a tight budget, you’ll go over by about 15-20 percent. PERIOD. This point goes for both bride and groom. Every planner I speak to says that same thing… Most couples go over budget, even when you pay a great planner to keep you on track. It’s called impulsive buys. Kind of like the items perfectly placed near the register at the grocery store? You know? The caramels, gum, giant Blow Pops… You know you don’t need it, but you really want it… So, please don’t get mad at the bride, you’re just as much to blame as she is.

#5 Pass the test!

Ok guys this is a test you know?  So you better take good notes and pass this huge important relationship test by doing all the above.  Don’t just take my word on this ask you dad or your grandpa.  Seriously at the end of the day you will do what it takes to back your number one girl on her big day.

Good luck boys!
