So you fancy having great music entertainment on your wedding, I mean who else doesn’t want this? Cover bands are great wedding entertainers that provide not only music but fun and gaiety for your wedding guests to enjoy. So what are the do’s and don’ts in hiring cover bands? Here are some tips that you might find handy and you’ll thank us later on:
Dos:
1. Do consider the budget
First and foremost, you need to put a cap on your wedding entertainment budget. Before going into further negotiations with your preferred band, it’s best to know where you stand when it comes to budget. You don’t want to end frustrated not booking the best band since they are out of your budget so it’s best to keep your financial priorities in line. The band prices may vary depending on the number of musicians, the amount of time you want them to play, the wedding venue, day of the week and what specific month of the year. Cover bands usually charge higher if the wedding venue is quite far and it will usually cost more if you want a 12-piece band to play on your special day.

2. Do check the space allocated for the band
Before looking and hunting for cover bands, make sure that you know any restrictions set out by your wedding reception site. Don’t get your heart set on a 12-piece band if there’s any limitation on the number of musicians, pieces of instruments they’re allowed to bring in, the voltage allocated for entertainment or any noise limitations.
3. Do let them know about the music you prefer
It’s okay to let them know what genre you are leaning to but don’t restrict cover bands to follow the strictest terms by the book. They are cover bands, they know what they are doing so there’s no need to limit them and put them on a glass tank (if you know what we mean).
Dont’s:
1. Don’t book a few weeks before the wedding
You should know by now that you need to book cover bands months in advance before the wedding so it’s a big NO NO to go to the negotiation table a few weeks before. Chances are, the band’s already booked for another wedding gig or that their prices might get a little steeper since they won’t have enough time to prepare and play your preferred play list. Save yourself the trouble by hunting for the best cover band at least six months in advance!
2. Don’t just settle for the first band you find
We always find this as an absolutely helpful tip. Don’t go for the first one you see for there are other choices out there waiting to be discovered. Not all cover bands are created equal so don’t jump into any assumptions that you can just hire the first band you find.
3. Don’t give too many restrictions
It’s your wedding of course but do remember that it’s the cover bands’ job to play music appropriate for your wedding. Give them enough freedom to play music that they are accustomed to. It’s okay to let them know what music you prefer but restricting them might end up to your disadvantage. Let them play and enjoy. Stop worrying and just live in the moment.
