Kentucky Derby Style in Beautiful Palm Springs

Guests of the Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA called on Undercover Live Entertainment. Feeling honored, we were their Palm Springs entertainment – Kentucky Derby style!

The Evening in Style

First of all, this country club has had many celebrity residents. The most prominent being President Gerald Ford.  Secondly, this property has parties and events at their clubhouse through-out the year. So, this season’s closing party was Kentucky Derby-themed. In the beginning, the club residents arrived dressed in amazingly colorful attire. Of course, the ladies sported hats overflowing with flowers and class.  Then, they would make their way under an oversized golden horseshoe! Only to be greeted with huge bouquets of red roses. Of course, we started with a cocktail hour and dinner. However, we quickly transitioned to dancing with a packed dance floor!

In the pictures below you can see the traditional Derby-style hats the ladies would wear. Of course, there was no shortage of great hats that evening.  This kind of corporate event is actually a great time to pull out some great oldies and standards. Truly, this offers a nostalgic feel for the older generations that they really enjoy.

Something You May Not Know

The Garland of Roses tradition was first established as part of the Derby celebration when they were presented to all the ladies attending a fashionable Louisville Derby party, the Garland of Roses was such a sensation, that the president of Churchill Downs, Col. Lewis Clark, adopted the rose as the race’s official flower. The rose garland, now synonymous with the Kentucky Derby, first appeared in 1896 when winner Ben Brush received a floral arrangement of white and pink roses.
